Spring in Texas | Bluebonnets

bluebonnet1I love that Spring is showing up here in N. Texas. The bluebonnets are popping up everywhere!!

I was out driving down just a few roads near my house hopeful to find a large spread of bluebonnets to use for photos, but I only found these few. They were actually in front of where my great-grandparent’s house used to be. I like to drive slowly by and sometimes stop to look at the flat earth where the house and barns stood. These beauties were a nice reminder of all the great family times we had there.

Weatherford Children’s Photographer | Kase

Oh boy do I need to do some catching up on the blog!!! Well, here’s a start…

I was enjoying lunch at Yesterday’s sandwich shop in town on Valentine’s Day with my guy. I love this place!! It’s dangerously close to the studio (about 30 steps!) and so yummy!!

Anyhow, while we were eating I noticed at the next table a couple of young moms with their babies and I cringed that I left my wallet with cards in the studio. So I walked down real quick to grab a handful and went back to sit and try to muster up the courage to talk to these strangers…not just talk but promote myself. My guy was no help, bless his heart, he’s so shy. He goes, “I wouldn’t do it.” Thanks for the help honey!!

As they’re getting ready to leave I’m losing my chance to spread the word of my just opened photography studio, so I walk over and begin to introduce myself as a photographer and hand them my cards. One of them starts laughing and says, “Were you listening to our conversation?” Oh, bleep! is pretty much what crossed my mind. What did I do?!

They said they were just talking about getting the kids’ photos taken and then I come up and introduce myself. Purely a divine coincidence. I did NOT eavesdrop on potential clients!! haha (not saying I wouldn’t, but I simply didn’t this time)

Lindsey emailed me and came in the studio to set up Mr. Kase’s photo session for his first birthday which had just passed the week before. After all was said and done I am SOOOO happy I went over and talked to them. Kase is absolutely precious and hopefully a new life long client!!1 copy copy

Daley & Deacon | 6.18.12

The day before I left for my 6 week trip to WA I was fortunate enough to have a client want me to take photos of her children. So amidst packing I loaded up and headed over to her house. I welcomed the break from packing!! Trying to fit everything needed for 6 weeks in one large suitcase and one carry on is not fun! BTW it didn’t all fit when I was ready to head back home but that’s an entirely different story! haha (There’s two pair of shoes who got left behind that are having to travel back solo)

This little girl is a spitfire!! She kept me on my toes and laughing the entire shoot. Except for shots like this where she left me catching my breath.

This little man was the serious of the two haha. He’s already trying out GQ faces!!

I love each of these equally, couldn’t pick one over the other!

She had a BLAST with these shots!! We had to do it twice haha!!

I would LOVE to take credit for this but I cannot….this was all momma’s idea!! I love it!

Hope everyone is having a pleasant Summer. It’s soooo hot here in Texas, looking forward to the cooler temps!!

Newborn Session {Harper}

Meet Harper! She weighed in at 9lbs 13oz and was 21.5″ long with a head full of thick dark hair. 10 days new.

The sun set and it was amazing light! Headband made by yours truly. Basket found at Ross or TJ Maxx (can’t remember) Purple wrap, well that was just fabric I bought at Joann’s.Β Look at all that hair!!!

The cute little bed was found at a garage sale for $2, headband made by yours truly, and the fabric is from Joann’s. The diaper cover is my favorite! I crocheted the cover and then sewed on ruffles I hand made. It was too little for her so I just tucked it around her. The headband is a Yo-Yo with a vintage button glued to the center.

We of course had to get the older siblings in some pics, too!!

And last but not least…

Please note that this is a composite shot. Do not EVER attempt this shot without an assistant (mom was my helper) to support baby’s head at all times. Newborn safety is crucial!! No shot is worth harming a baby.

Worship on the Square {Granbury}

Tonight tonight tonight!!!

I will be taking photos and enjoying music and worship in Granbury on the Square! If you’re able to come I’d love to see you’re beautiful face there!

The event starts at 7pm and goes until 9pm. It’s sure to be a wonderful evening outdoors!

Debra Camp Ministries is leading the worship and she’ll have other artists there as well. So come out, bring the family and friends, and have fun!! See you there!

Travel Deals {WA State Only}

I can finally say in 7 days I’ll be on my way to see my sister!!! One week baby!! I’ve been looking forward to this for months now and pretty soon I’ll be leaving the Texas heat for my water front getaway….sorry Texas peeps!

Funny enough I just received a call last week from the wonderful family that I met and took photos for last year. We’re gearing up to update the family photo…can’t wait!!

I am offering special, WA only, photo packages just for my trip. Here are the details:

$95

$120

Typically I ask for a deposit but since the prices are so low I’m asking for the entire session be paid for in advance to reserve your date. I want to make absolute sure that I’m not wasting a vacation day with my family for a client who may or may not show up. I know you’ll show up, but it will put my mind at ease if we play by the rules πŸ™‚

I really hope to meet more people on my extended visit. I really love it up there. Oh my geez….before I go on and forget one of the most important sessions I hope to do up there….SENIOR 2013!!! I have a wonderful senior package and know that most schools require seniors to have their sessions completed early (new to me, please correct me if I’m wrong). Please email me for further info on Senior 2013 photo sessions. Photographing seniors is so different and fun than anything else I photograph!! I’ll be there for 5 weeks so I can definitely fit you in! So go shopping, get your props ready and let’s have some fun!!

Please note that if you are in Canada I can travel to you or vise versa. So all you near Blaine, WA like White Rock, Langley, Surrey, Delta….you’re within decent driving distance. However, I only take US dollars hehe! πŸ™‚

Washington…and Canada….I’ll be seeing you real soon! πŸ™‚

2 Years and Counting…

I was so busy last week that it didn’t even occur to me that my business anniversary was coming up and I missed it!! It’s been 2 whole years since I established by business and 8 months since taking it full-time.

I guess it’s true what they say….time flies when you’re having fun! It has been fun…along with scary, trying, confusing, frustrating, enjoyable, rewarding and a gazillion other things.

Yep, these past two years have been a revolving door of changes. Not only dealing with growth but who I am and what my photography is. Learning where to set goals and how to accomplish them. Finding great online resources and soaking up as much info as possible and trying to determine how to apply that information to my business. Just because something works wonders for one photographer in one area doesn’t mean it will for everyone. I’ve learned the beginning is A LOT of trial and error.

For those clients who have repeatedly used me throughout these years during all this THANK YOU! You have no idea how much I appreciate your loyalty and continued support. I only hope that I’ve given photos and an experience that exceed the previous and make you want to stick around for all the wonderful things that are yet to come!!

If you are a photographer reading this and you’re thinking it’s too hard, there’s too much to learn, you’re not good enough, the business side of photography isn’t fun, and you wondering if you’re making the right decisions….I want you to know that those are all valid and common fears that we all have!! Trust me! I’ve thought all those things. But you can do it! If it’s your passion and you feel drawn to it like nothing else then it will work out, if you work at it!

I have found Jenika over at Psychology for Photographers to be a remarkable source of information. I never miss a post and soak up everything she writes. She’s genuinely wants her readers to succeed and it shows!

The same can be said for Elizabeth over at ElizabethHalford.com Right now she’s teamed up with Lightroompresets.com for a 10 video photography series. If you’re just starting out or thinking about becoming a paid photographer I highly recommend watching the videos. She tells it like it is, in plain english that we all can understand.

I’m nowhere near where I want to be but I feel very confident at this point where I am. I understand nothing happens overnight and although I enjoy my “job” it is still a business and I have to treat it as such with lots of hard work. It’s wonderful knowing its all mine but scary knowing if I don’t do anything nothing will get done.

I’ll end with saying lots of wonderfulness is coming and I’m really excited!! Along with a couple of cute shots of my nephew…well just because he’s so darn cute!

“Did a grasshopper just jump into my camera?” He’s checking it out πŸ™‚ We only have a million grasshoppers in our yard so it was slightly believable!!

My First Wedding {Part II}

There was just no way I could pack all the pictures in one post. Well, and I’ll be honest, I didn’t have all of them done at the time!!! Whew! I’m learning what work goes in to being a wedding photographer that’s for sure! I’ve really enjoyed it though, the pictures (I think) turned out really good and I’m so proud of them. Not to mention (because I totally didn’t last post) I had a great second shooter to help me out that day. Thank you Scotty for being there! Your presence alone with that second camera kept me calm! Oh and it was his first wedding to shoot, too! Man the bride sure did trust us. πŸ™‚

So apparently the guys needed a little visual help in putting the ties on!Oh was it windy! Didn’t leave us with a lot of choices outside.Aren’t they all beautiful?!

The moment of truth…..will he do it? Β She held her own pretty good!!They exited under a rain of bubbles.Just look at that happiness!! Can’t you just feel it!The vintage truck doing it’s final duty. Gosh I love that thing!

I hope you’ve enjoyed the photos as well as my commentary! I plan on starting off slow and doing 2-3 weddings per year. So if you or someone you know needs a photographer for a wedding I’m available!!

Quick little note: Just wanted to say thanks to my wonderful family/friends who knew going into this I was nervous and sent me sweet texts the day of and encouraged me all along the way. It means the world to me!!! Love you all!

My First Wedding {Part I}

I didn’t ever expect to be a wedding photographer. I mean let’s face it, that idea is very daunting!! However when friend asked fully knowing I hadn’t ever shot one (not even as a second shooter) I decided to test myself and take the plunge!! I’m soooo glad I did! Yes, leading up to it I was a frantic mess, but when the time came all that washed away and things went so well!

Is this something I’m going to continue…well…maybe on a limited amount. I’m thinking two a year haha That might be good to do until I really decide based on more experience.Β

This was the verse that was on their wedding invitations. So lovely.

The ceremony was so perfect.Β Instead of the unity candle or sand they did a rope ceremony. I had never heard of it before this and it’s pretty cool!

Before the wedding they did not see each other but we had her come out behind him so they could say hi and talk beforehand.It was very moving to witness such love and emotions right before the big event. I had to hold back a few tears so I could keep shooting.

There are many more photos to share so I had to break it up into parts. Part II to come soon!!
