Riley Fighter Story {The Gold Hope Project}

Riley is my third little fighter to meet and photograph for The Gold Hope Project. Read below for Riley’s story.The Gold Hope Project

On Dec 7 2012 at 2pm our healthy 3 year old was suddenly diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)He spent a week in the hospital and started intense chemotherapy..He has amazed Doctors with how well he is responding and we know it is because of all the prayers that have been lifted up for him..We believe in the power of PRAYER! 2

The survival rate for this type of cancer is 95% and the process is at minimum a 3 years…We believe God has fully healed him and restored his body and that he will be a testimony and inspiration to all that meet him!!! 3

Riley had so much wonderful energy that day for the photo shoot. He was laughing, running, and playing. Also, talking non-stop about super heros and how the Hulk was is favorite!4 5 6 7Riley’s beads are very important. Each one has a special meaning, a needle prick, a hospital stay and so on.  It’s not easy seeing a precious child in this condition.  Raising awareness for childhood cancer is vital in finding a cure and providing treatment. 8 9

Only a very small percentage of cancer research funds goes towards childhood cancer. Wanna know how much? It’s not much, only $195,529,112  of over 5 billion dollars went to pediatric cancers in 2011. BREAST cancer received $625,059,909.  LUNG cancer received $296,814,144.  PROSTATE cancer received $288,326,756.10 11 12
Please take a moment and watch Riley’s video I made just for him below.

The Gold Hope Project | Riley from Melinda Fain on Vimeo.

There are 92 drugs that are specific to pediatric disorders, conditions and illnesses. Not one is a chemotherapy or related to childhood cancers. Leukemia, by far, is the most expensive pediatric cancer to treat. (mean cost of $47,000 per stay)
Stay tuned to The Gold Hope Project, there are fund raising efforts in the future. Please go like their Facebook page as well to learn about other fighters.

If you are interested in hiring me please email at linnyjodesigns@ymail.com with a potential date that you would like to reserve. Typically I ask for a deposit but since the prices are so low I’m asking for the entire session be paid for in advance to reserve your date. I want to make absolute sure that I’m not wasting a vacation day with my family for a client who may or may not show up. I know you’ll show up, but it will put my mind at ease if we play by the rules 🙂

I really hope to meet more people on my extended visit. I really love it up there. Oh my geez….before I go on and forget one of the most important sessions I hope to do up there….SENIOR 2013!!! I have a wonderful senior package and know that most schools require seniors to have their sessions completed early (new to me, please correct me if I’m wrong). Please email me for further info on Senior 2013 photo sessions. Photographing seniors is so different and fun than anything else I photograph!! I’ll be there for 5 weeks so I can definitely fit you in! So go shopping, get your props ready and let’s have some fun!!

Please note that if you are in Canada I can travel to you or vise versa. So all you near Blaine, WA like White Rock, Langley, Surrey, Delta….you’re within decent driving distance. However, I only take US dollars hehe! 🙂

Washington…and Canada….I’ll be seeing you real soon! 🙂

Something on the Horizon

Mount Baker and the Twin Sisters photo by LinnyJo

Wouldn’t you love to wake up, grab your cup of hot coffee, open the sliding door, and sit on your deck and see the view above? The air would be so cool and crisp you wrap your hands around the coffee mug feeding off the warmth. Every way you glance you can’t help but soak in all the natural elements, from the bay, the mountains, eagles searching for breakfast, to the sun slowly rising. Eagle sitting on top of a tree photo by LinnyJo

It’s the beginning of July and if there isn’t rain in the forecast you pretty much know the day will be perfect. Time to get ready for a leisurely bike ride around the neighborhood.

Okay, okay….enough with the daydreaming!!! Everything you just read was me experiencing Birch Bay, WA last summer. This small town Texas girl who knew nothing more of flat dry lands and summer temperatures that make you break out in dripping sweat the moment you walk outside. Heat so intense when you get in your car after its been sitting out all day it takes your breath away and you feel like you’d suffocate if the air conditioner didn’t kick in soon enough. Oh yea, air conditioners. You know they don’t typically even have those in houses in WA???

My sister and her family moved up there and bought a house not that many years ago, so I’ve had the pleasure of visiting as I choose. That really is their view front the deck in the morning!!

The reason I bring this subject up is, well, I miss this place like crazy!!! Also, I’m 95% sure that I’ll be spending ALL of July there this summer!! Yes, all of it. Don’t worry there will still be plenty of sizzling Texas summer waiting for me when I get back hahaha

My niece and I taking that bike ride through their neighborhood

The last trip I easily took over 1000 photos in my week’s visit. I can’t even try to guess at all the photos I’ll take over a month!! I hope to take in some paying sessions as well. 🙂 I did last time and the family was so sweet. They had just adopted a little girl and I offered to take their first family portraits as a whole. This was a chance meeting as my niece and I were taking in some sun and fun at the community pool.

So as the time gets closer I’m sure you’ll be seeing more posts about my departure from Texas and see the excitement building 🙂 I cannot wait!

Family Christmas {Farmer}

Not quite sure how long I’ve known this family…years & years. I went to school with all three boys, the youngest (Toby)was in my younger brother’s class. My best friend had the biggest crush on the oldest…ha ha sorry Bryce, but I think that cat was let out of the bag a long time ago!! Now Toby lives with his young bride and their adorable two little boys in Arizona. Momma Farmer was so excited to have all her boys and their families here in TX for Christmas she asked me to come over the day after for family photos. Here’s a little sneak…

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were roaming the high school halls….time flies!!

Happy New Year {2011 in Review}

I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year’s Eve. I pigged out on not-so-healthy foods with some pretty fabulous peeps. When I wasn’t doing that I was making everyone laugh at my outrageous answers to Catchphrase. Oh my, that game is so fun with the right people!! We stopped long enough to catch the broadcast of the countdown at about 1 minute and rang in the New Year. Then I got to wake up this morning to watch Tom and Jerry with the cutest little 4 year old on the planet. I was also privileged enough to watch him play Ben 10 on his DS. Boy am I lucky!! haha

Since the start of a new year is all about reflection I want to show a photo (or two) from sessions from each month of 2011. Hopefully we’ll see some progression in my work. So here goes….

So there’s my year in photos. I can’t wait to have another great year. It feels really good to start 2012 knowing I have the most amazing job I could ever want. Not only that but amazing friends and family that are so supportive and give me so much motivation to succeed. I thank the Lord daily (sometimes more!) for all my blessings, no matter how small.

Looking forward I want to travel, even if it’s only to WA state again, and take more photos for me….how I see the world.  I also hope to establish a studio this year. That’s a big time goal. I want that so bad!! A place to showcase all my work and run my business. It’s so exciting to think about!! It will happen, I just have to be patient and work my way towards it.

Oh and get ready in April to start seeing tons of photos of a certain little baby girl. My best friend (since we were 4) is having her first baby!! That child will have soooo many photo sessions she’ll think she’s a movie star!! I’ll have my own little model to practice on.

Here’s my other little model (the cutest 4 year old I talked about earlier) from yesterday.

From the bottom of my heart I want to say a big THANK YOU to all my clients. You are helping me live my dream. I love getting know each and every one of you and look forward to many more sessions. Keep spreading the word! ha ha Once again Happy New Year and God Bless!!

Family Session {Ricketts}

What to say first about this little family?? Uh, they’re beautiful!!
Second?? Super nice!!
I went to school with both Haley and Ryan.
Although they’re a tad younger than I am.
Ryan used to play in a rock band with my younger brother Adam.
We were all freezing during this shoot.
They make me look good.
I was allowed the pleasure of photographing their first baby’s newborn photos.
You can see those here.
But first take a look below.

Stay tuned next week because this weekend I’m taking photos of Ryan’s whole family. Should be super fun!!!

Thank you Haley, Ryan, and baby Ryder for the awesome session!!

Family Session {Barrett}

The cooler temps have finally arrived in N. Texas but that hasn’t slowed any of us down taking photos. This past Saturday morning was in the upper 30s, thankfully no winds, and we braved the chill to get some adorable photos. This was my first time meeting the Barrett family although we know several of the same peeps. That’s the commonality in a teeny tiny town. They are the cutest little family and I truly had a wonderful time snapping away in between keeping my fingers warm!

Love the mother/daughter & father/son shots. So sweet!!

Is she not the cutest little thing??! I mean just look at her mommy. Sorry dad but we know where the looks came from! haha (BTW do you own a gun, ya might want to get one soon)

And last but by far my most favorite. I felt like I was doing an engagement session all of a sudden! They are too cute!!! Loved it!

Thank you Barrett family for allowing me the pleasure of photographing your precious family. I enjoyed it to the max!!

Fall Session {Fain’s}

I held a contest not too long ago for a free photo session and this happy family won! They wanted a fall session and we were able to fit it in right before Thanksgiving. Jacob happens to be my cousin and he married my friend Jody. Their little boy Kenson just turned 2 and he has the funniest little personality. He is most famous for his nose wrinkle!! They also brought along their puppy Jax, a beautiful chocolate lab, for the shoot.

This turned out to be a little more special of a shoot than we thought, because, you see, their dear Jax got sick over the weekend and we received the terrible news that he did not make it through the night last night. They are heartbroken and I’m so very happy we were able to capture them as a family before this tragedy occurred.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Losing a pet is like losing a part of your family.
