I’m coming up on my one year anniversary of opening my studio. We moved in in February. 2014 is going to be our sink or swim year. We’ve poured a lot of our personal money into running the studio and if the cash flow from the business doesn’t start really sustaining the company then, well, the doors will close.
We jumped into the studio space on a leap of faith. We weren’t financially prepared. Really we weren’t. It was available and the location and building were my DREAM! The lease was signed. First a six month trial. It ended and we signed on another 2 years. Eep!
My pricing went up. I lost clients to cheaper photographers. I gained new clients.
2014 will see my pricing change again. I have more overhead than the average shoot and burn photographer. I have to make a profit to keep my studio. I have to. I can’t offer discounts or deals to everyone. I can’t. I cannot shoot a session and give a cd of images with a print release for $50, $70 or even $200. I can’t.
Even though I have a studio I’m not into the typical studio set ups. So if you’re ever wondering where the cute little seasonal backdrops and props are…it’s not my thing. I could do it but it’s just not how I want to shoot. And what’s the point of the whole thing if I’m shooting things that I don’t like?
I’m so excited to offer new things to my clients this year. Starting with a Baby Plan that will follow a child all the way from belly to their first year!
The price list will get a facelift and a more simplified look. Ordering is daunting enough so I’ll do my best to make it as easy as possible.
I also want to know what you as either current clients, past clients, or potential clients would want? Leave a comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I can’t give you want you want if I don’t know what it is!!
I really hope 2014 is awesome. I know God has a plan for it all and I rest easy knowing He’s in control.
“So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.” 1 Peter 5:6
Thank you all for reading. I just want to be open and honest with you.
